    Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) participates in celebration of West Bengal Foundation Day at LG Secretariat.
    Leh, June 20, 2024: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), participated in the programme held at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat to celebrate the Foundation Day of West Bengal. All 28 states and 8 union territories of India are celebrating the foundation of West Bengal at their respective Raj Bhawan and Raj Niwas as a part of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat to celebrate India’s cultural diversity and different traditions.
    In 1947, the Bengal Legislative Council and the Bengal Legislative Assembly voted on the Partition of Bengal in 1947 into two independent dominions: West Bengal and East Bengal, which later became the independent Bangladesh.
    Wishing the people of West Bengal on the occasion of Paschim Banga Dibas (West Bengal Day), the HLG stated that the objective behind the celebration of the foundation day of each Indian state/UT is to foster a sense of nationalism and nation integration among the people of India. He also stated that the initiative of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat taken by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi ji, has a positive impact and highlighted the need to take it forward. He further stated that the event helps in collecting information about the state/UT whose foundation day is being celebrated.
    The HLG stated that each state/UT has its own characteristics and good practices which others can learn from. He highlighted the initiative taken by the UT Administration to send cultural troupes comprising students from Ladakh to celebrate the foundation day of Ladakh in the Raj Bhawan/Raj Niwas of different states/UTs last and the positive response from the Governors/Lieutenant Governors of the States/UTs.
    The HLG highlighted the contribution of Rabindranath Tagore in the field of art and the Nobel Prize won by him in the field of literature. He stated that special praise must be given to Rabindranath Tagore for writing a collection of poems in the form of Gitanjali. Stating that being proud of one’s culture is a good thing, the HLG highlighted the importance of national integration in a democratic set-up.
    Advisor to the HLG called West Bengal ‘the intellectual powerhouse of India’ and highlighted the contribution of Bengal in the Indian freedom movement. He highlighted the patriotism with which Bankim Chandra Chatterjee wrote the poem Vande Mataram along with the progressive nature of Bengalis and their attachment to Bengali art and culture.
    The message of the Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, Shri C V Ananda Bose, was also played during the event.
    Principal Secretary, Shri Sanjiv Khirwar, IAS; Commissioner/Secretary, Dr Vasanthakumar N, IAS; Commissioner/Secretary to the HLG, L Franklin, IAS; Secretary, Vikram Singh Malik, IAS; Secretary, Amit Sharma, IAS; other officials and staff of LG Secretariat were present during the celebration of West Bengal Day.
