    Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) participates in seminar on Bhoti language for Bhoti teachers of UT Ladakh.

    Leh, Dec 30, 2023: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) participated in the Day-Long Seminar on Bhoti Language for Bhoti Teachers of UT Ladakh organised by the Department of Education and District Institute of Educational Training (DIET) under the aegis of LAHDC Leh.
    Terming the event as important for the entire Ladakh and calling Bhoti a civilisation, the HLG highlighted the importance of encouraging the young generation to study Bhoti and specialise in the language or else it might face extinction in future. He emphasised on promoting Bhoti language and taking necessary steps to develop Bhoti in Himalayan states and also countries outside India such as Bhutan.
    Highlighting the initiatives taken by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, for the development of Ladakh, the HLG stated that the Hon’ble PM is also concerned about the preservation of culture and language of Ladakh along with the holistic growth of the indigenous people. He also expressed gratitude to Hon’ble PM for sanctioning Rs 20,000 crore power line for solar project in Ladakh as it would generate employment for Ladakhi youth along with revenue for the Administration.
    Stating that the Recruitment Rules for the gazetted posts of lecturers in Bhoti language would be framed after taking time to perfect the rules, the HLG shared that he wants to see research scholars in Bhoti language who would go on to teach at both national and international level. He stated that attractive methods should be adopted to support and promote Bhoti language, viz. writing folk songs, organising plays in schools, screening documentary films, organising poetic events, etc. He asked the Bhoti teachers and other concerned officials to decide on necessary steps that could be taken to promote Bhoti language in Ladakh.
    Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Shri Jamyang Tsering Namgyal stated that the priority should be focusing on development of education in Ladakh. He highlighted the contribution of Kushok Bakula Rinpoche in getting due recognition for Bhoti language and UT status for Ladakh. He emphasised on strengthening the roots of Bhoti language, teaching the language to young kids, creating employment in this field and making the people take pride in the language.
    Shri Jamyang highlighted the initiative taken by Department of Education for publishing Bhoti textbooks for Class 1 to 8, the inclusion of Bhoti language in the CBSE curriculum and efforts being made to include Bhoti language in National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) curriculum and the request made to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh to introduce Bhoti language in secondary and higher secondary classes, etc.
    Earlier, Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Shri Tsering Angchuk, welcomed the guests and highlighted various initiatives taken by LAHDC Leh and Education Department for the promotion of Bhoti language, including the recruitment of 246 Bhoti teachers on a contractual basis under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. He requested the notification/drafting of recruitment rules for gazetted posts of Bhoti lecturers.
