Horticulture Department, Leh, Organized Exposure Tour for Farmers of Wanla, Fanjila, Women Alliance farmers of Leh District.

Leh, March 25, 2025: As part of its ongoing efforts to promote modern horticulture practices, the Horticulture Department, Leh, organized a one-day exposure tour for a group of approximately 110 farmers. of Wanla, Fanjila, Women Alliance farmers of Leh District.
The tour was flagged off by Hon’ble Executive Councilor Horticulture Shri. Ghulam Mehdi and Councilor Leh Constituency Mr. Stanzin Tsepak in the presence of Shri. Tsewang Punchok, Director Horticulture, UT-Ladakh, Smt. Kunzang Wangmo, Chief Horticulture Officer, Leh and Horticulture Dev. Officer, Khaltsi, Dr. Stanzin Angmo.
The tour commenced from the Council Office, Leh, and took the farmers to the Model Orchard cum Nursery Saspol (MOCN) where they observed the cultivation of different kinds of fruits such as apricot, apple, Gl-tagged Apricot Raktsey Karpo and strawberry farming in greenhouses. On their way back, the farmers visited the Centre of Excellence for Seabuckthorn in Nimmo, where they have seen the scientific cultivation of Seabuckthorn and later visited Fruit Processing Unit in Nimmo, accompanied by Incharge Nursery, Dr. Stanzin Angmo, where they gained insights into fruit processing and value-added products.
At the end of the tour, the participating farmers expressed their gratitude to Chief Horticulture Officer Smt. Kunzang Wangmo and the department’s staff for organizing the trip and making all necessary arrangements for a smooth and informative experience. The initiative aims to enhance the knowledge of local farmers and encourage the adoption of improved horticultural practices for better productivity and economic growth.
