    Leh, June 23, 2026: The inaugural ceremony of Ladakh Model Boys Higher Secondary School, Leh was held today with great enthusiasm and pride. The institution, formerly known as Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Leh, has recently been upgraded to a Model Government Boys Higher Secondary School, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of quality education in the region.
    The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Ms. Bhanu Prabha, IAS, Administrative Secretary, Education Department, UT Ladakh. The Guests of Honour included distinguished alumni and eminent personalities: Padma Shri Chewang Phuntsog (Retd. IAS), former Chief Secretary of the erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir State; Padma Shri Dr. Tsering Norbu, retired Physician Specialist; Padma Shri Tsering Norphel, popularly known as the “Ice Man of Ladakh”; and Shri Ishey Paldan (Retd.), eminent educationist. The function was attended by parents, teachers, students, and members of the local community.
    The programme commenced with the formal inauguration of the upgraded institution by the dignitaries, who congratulated the school on this remarkable achievement. This was followed by a welcome address by Shri Tsering Norbu, Principal, who highlighted the school’s vision, achievements, and future aspirations. He expressed gratitude to the Administration of Ladakh, the Education Department, and all stakeholders whose support made the upgradation possible. He also assured that the school would continue to maintain high standards in academics, discipline, and co-curricular activities.
    Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest emphasized the importance of providing innovative and holistic learning opportunities to students. She advised students to remain focused on their studies amidst the many distractions prevalent today. She further stated that the concept of a model school should not be limited to upgraded infrastructure alone but should be reflected in the overall development of students and in the institution’s role as a centre of excellence.
    Guest of Honour Padma Shri Chewang Phuntsog (Retd. IAS) also addressed the audience. In his speech, he stressed that the key to success lies in valuing time and maintaining consistency in one’s work. He also elaborated on the true meaning of education and highlighted the importance of language in personal and professional growth.
    The programme featured vibrant cultural performances by students, showcasing the rich traditions and cultural heritage of Ladakh. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Shri Thupstan Tsering, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the proud history of the institution.
