Kargil, September 11, 2025: Joint Director for Youth Services & Sports Ladakh, Tahir Hussain Zubdavi graced the opening ceremony of the 3 days Inter-Zonal District Level School Tournament as chief guest today. The tournament is organized by the Youth Services and Sports Department, Kargil at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium, Biamathang.
The tournament has brought together boys and girls across all age categories (U-14, U-17, and U-19) from seven zones of Kargil District. The young athletes will compete in volleyball, handball, table tennis, football and athletics events, including the 1500m, 800m, and 400m races. The participants were earlier selected during the Zonal Level Inter-School Tournaments conducted at their respective zonal headquarters. Players performing exceptionally at the district level will earn a place in the Kargil District teams for the upcoming UT-level competitions.
The opening ceremony began with the National Anthem, followed by a welcome address from DYSSO Kargil, Abid Ali, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, Joint Director of Youth Services and Sports, Ladakh, Tahir Hussain Zubdavi. He highlighted the progression of competitions from inter-school to inter-zonal and now inter-district levels, expressing hope that the talent identified will one day excel at the national level.
In his address, Chief Guest Tahir Hussain Zubdavi emphasized the department’s commitment to nurturing youth talent and promoting sports culture in the region. He highlighted the infrastructure developed under the department, including indoor and outdoor facilities and astroturf grounds across zones and blocks, urging the youth to make optimum use of these facilities.
He further congratulated and extended gratitude to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the UT Administration for establishing National standard sports infrastructure and Khelo India state center of excellence at Leh where specialized coaches have been appointed for boxing, archery, and athletics.
He announced that talent identification programs will soon be conducted across different regions to scout and groom promising athletes. Zubdavi also acknowledged the allocation of 500 kanals of land at Kurbathang for sports development, expressing appreciation to the Ministry and the UT Administration for their continuous support.
Highlighting Ladakh’s growing presence on the national sports stage, Zubdavi expressed confidence that athletes from the region would continue to bring laurels by winning medals in various disciplines.
He also lauded DYSSO Kargil, Abid Ali, and his team for their dedicated efforts in successfully organizing the tournament.
The Inter-Zonal District Level School Tournament serves as a crucial platform for identifying and nurturing budding talent, paving the way for participation at intra national level competition.
