International Women’s Day Observed with Discussions on Women’s Rights and Empowerment at GDC Khaltse.
GDC Khaltse observed International Women’s Day with a programme focusing on the importance of women’s rights, empowerment, and gender equality. The event aimed to create awareness and encourage meaningful dialogue on the socio-economic and cultural position of women in society.
The programme commenced with the keynote address delivered by Dr. Sameena Iqbal, Principal of the college who stressed that empowering women is essential for building a just and progressive society. She highlighted that opportunities provided to women should be viewed as investments that contribute to the prosperity of the entire community. She also noted that women are important contributors and architects of society and that empowering them paves the pathway for a better future.
The event also included a discussion session where participants deliberated on the theme of women’s empowerment. The discussion covered several important issues, including the socio- economic and political status of women in Ladakh, gender stereotyping through language, and gender constructions in rural and urban areas of Ladakh. Participants exchanged views and suggested possible solutions to address these challenges and promote gender equality.
The programme was conducted by Mepham Dolker student of 6 th semester and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Padma Angmo, Assistant Professor of History, who expressed gratitude to the speakers and participants for making the event meaningful and insightful.
