    International Yoga Day-2024 celebrated with enthusiasm in Kargil.
    Kargil, June 21, 2024: The 10th International Yoga Day 2024 was celebrated with enthusiasm today at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium in Bemathang, Kargil.
    The International Day of Yoga is marked annually on June 21 on a global scale since 2015. To mark the day and raise awareness of the benefits of practicing yoga, yoga enthusiasts gathered early morning at the Bemathang stadium to participate and perform yoga.
    The main function was attended by Chairman/Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon; Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Suse; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Suhail Ahmed; District Officers of various departments, staff of different departments, SIA, NYK, youth, students from different schools and other concerned officials participated in the yoga session.
    The program commenced at 6:30 a.m. with various Asanas performed by the gathering, demonstrating zeal and enthusiasm.
    Soon after the Yoga sessions were held, artists from different cultural troupes and schools of Kargil district presented colourful cultural programs depicting the diverse and unique cultures of the district that enthralled the audience.
    The District Administration Kargil and LAHDC Kargil had made all the arrangements at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium, Bemathang, Kargil for the celebration of the Yoga Day.
    The program proceedings were conducted by Ibrahim Shaoqi. Every year, the International Yoga Day is celebrated on June 21 to celebrate the physical and spiritual prowess that yoga has brought to the world.
    The idea of the Yoga Day was first proposed by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi on September 27, 2014, during his speech at the UN General Assembly, where a resolution to establish June 21 as International Yoga Day was introduced.
    The date of June 21 was chosen as it is the Summer Solstice, the day where there is the most sun out of every other day of the year.
