Kargil Campus, University of Ladakh, launches week‑long painting workshop for tribal students.
Kargil, April 24, 2025: The Tribal Research Institute, Kargil Campus, University of Ladakh, inaugurated a one-week workshop titled “One Week Tribal Painting Workshop for Tribal Students: On the Occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh” on April 23, 2025.

Sajad Hussain Bob and Kaniz Fathima, President of STRINGMO Organization Kargil, served as resource persons. Students from Govt. Higher Secondary Schools Lankarchay and Traspon, Govt. Middle School Kanoor and Kargil Campus participated actively.
The program commenced with a traditional khatak ceremony and the National Anthem, followed by a two-minute silence as a mark of solidarity with those who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr. Jaffar Ali Khan welcomed guests and thanked Vice Chancellor UoL, Prof. Saket Kushwaha for his visionary support. He highlighted the role of TRI in reviving cultural traits through art and emphasized the impact of modernization on traditional identity.
Dr. Mehboob Ali appreciated TRI’s initiative and encouraged students to embrace their heritage through visual arts. Sajad Hussain’s presentation focused on reconnecting students with tribal traditions and the effectiveness of art in cultural preservation. He discussed Ladakhi tribal customs, attire, and traditional painting forms.
Kaniz Fathima shared STRINGMO’s outreach, including training programs in over 200 schools, cultural awareness campaigns, and public art projects. She emphasized empowering youth through art and cultural education.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Pirzada Athar Hussain, acknowledging the support of Vice Chancellor, Prof. Saket Kushwaha; Dr. Mehboob Ali; Dr. Jaffar Ali Khan; Sajad Hussain Bob; STRINGMO team, students, staff, and media for making the inaugural session a success.
