KVK Zanskar Conducts Training-cum-Awareness Programmes under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, MIDH & DST-SEED Project.
Zanskar, October 27, 2025: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kargil-II, Zanskar successfully organized a series of Training-cum-Awareness Programmes, Scientist–Farmer Interaction Sessions and animal camp from 15th October to 27th October 2025 under the banner of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, MIDH Project, and DST-SEED Project.
The programme covered 11 remote villages of Zanskar valley including Stongday, Pipcha, Karsha, Ufti, Pibiting, Padam, Stara, Salapi, Akshow, Rangdum and Parkachik, benefiting nearly 400 farmers.
The programme were aimed to introduce advanced horticultural crops suitable for cold-arid conditions, to provide training on modern agricultural practices to enhance productivity, doubling farmers’ income through diversification and protected cultivation, to create awareness on climate change impacts in high-altitude agro-ecosystems, to encourage expansion of fruit crops through land survey and feasibility, to conduct animal health camps and free distribution of mineral supplements, and to conduct cleanliness and sanitation drive in agricultural fields/kitchen gardens under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Farmers appreciated the introduction of improved and high-value crops under MIDH and DST-SEED interventions.
Field-level sanitation drives were conducted to prevent crop diseases ahead of next agricultural season. Free animal mineral supplements were distributed to address nutritional deficiency in livestock.
Many farmers expressed willingness to expand orchard area using KVK-led technological interventions. While farmers grievances were recorded regarding shortage of agricultural inputs and livestock medicines in extremely remote areas.
Farmers also raised the demand for: Increased supply of agricultural inputs, more frontline demonstrations, availability of mineral-rich fodder and animal medicines, strengthening of livestock health support units in remote tribal villages, and Scientist–Farmer Interactions.
A detailed interaction was held with farmers regarding: land survey and suitability for fruit crops, protected cultivation potential, horticulture-led livelihood opportunities, nutritional management of livestock in winter months.
Many farmers displayed strong acceptance of the new technologies introduced by KVK and conveyed confidence for further expansion of horticultural crops in the valley.
