    Kargil, April 14: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena today attended the renaming ceremony of the District Hospital Kargil, which has been named in honour of late Qamar Ali Akhoon, a respected social worker and public leader who made invaluable contributions to the region.
    Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor extended greetings to public representatives, administrative secretaries, senior officers, doctors, medical staff, technicians, nursing students, and all those present. He said he felt privileged to be part of the ceremony and recalled that the decision to rename the hospital was taken without hesitation, as it was a fitting tribute to a personality whose life was dedicated to public service.
    The Lieutenant Governor stated that honouring such personalities does not merely bestow respect upon them, but also elevates the values of the society that remembers and preserves their legacy. He expressed his happiness at formally unveiling the name of Qamar Ali Akhoon Memorial Hospital before the public.
    Highlighting the life and contributions of late Qamar Ali Akhoon, the Lieutenant Governor said that he had served in various important capacities and had always worked selflessly for the welfare of the people. His contributions towards education, particularly in promoting women’s education, were described as remarkable and worthy of deep appreciation.
    The Lieutenant Governor noted that empowering women through education leads to the empowerment of entire families and society. He said that the work carried out by Qamar Ali Akhoon continues to inspire present and future generations, and his legacy will remain alive in the hearts of the people.
    Sharing his experience of visiting Kargil, the Lieutenant Governor said he had witnessed a strong spirit of public service and unity among the people. He appreciated the active participation of public representatives, religious leaders, and citizens in various programmes, describing their commitment to social welfare as commendable.
    He encouraged everyone to continue serving Ladakh with the same dedication and sense of responsibility. Assuring his support, the Lieutenant Governor said he would always be available to contribute in any capacity for the welfare of the people and the region.
    The Lieutenant Governor expressed gratitude to the organisers for giving him the opportunity to be part of the programme and reiterated his hope that the ideals and values demonstrated by Qamar Ali Akhoon would guide society in the years to come. He emphasised that social service does not depend on status or wealth, but on intention, compassion, and commitment.
    Concluding his address, the Lieutenant Governor thanked the large gathering for paying tribute to late Qamar Ali Akhoon and expressed confidence that the people would continue to honour his name by working for the betterment of society.
    Later, the Lieutenant Governor visited Kargil Airport and reviewed the feasibility of infrastructure development. He said that all issues related to runway extension and other airport works would be taken up at the Ministry level in consultation with all stakeholders. The Lieutenant Governor also informed that every possible effort would be made to commence operations of nineteen-seater aircraft in the immediate future to improve air connectivity for the region.
