Ladakh Pollution Control Committee Observes International E-Waste Day 2025.

The Ladakh Pollution Control Committee (LPCC) observed the International E-Waste Day 2025 at its Office in Leh to raise awareness about responsible e-waste management among officials of various government departments of the UT of Ladakh. The officials from the Health Department, Power Development Department, Wildlife Department, Tourism Department, Education Department, Department of Industries and Commerce, Ladakh Renewable Energy Development Agency, Regional Transport Office and District Motor Garage attended the seminar.
The seminar featured a presentation on the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022 and its amendments, highlighting the roles and responsibilities of producers, consumers, recyclers, and government bodies, by the Senior Officers of the LPCC. The presentation also highlighted a case study of Guiyu, China, depicting the harmful effects of informal e-waste recycling, along with an overview of the Schedule-I list of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE), which outlines the average lifespan of various electrical and electronic equipment. Participants also viewed an awareness video showcasing the environmental and health hazards associated with improper e-waste disposal and emphasizing the importance of recycling through authorized facilities.
The LPCC briefed participants on the ongoing preparation of an inventory of e-waste across Ladakh and the awareness initiatives conducted in schools, local bodies, and women’s groups to promote safe and sustainable e-waste handling practices.
Concluding the session, the Ladakh Pollution Control Committee emphasized collective responsibility to repair, reuse, and recycle electronic items and to deposit e-waste only at authorized collection centers to protect Ladakh’s fragile environment.
