Massive Cleanliness Drive and Awareness Rally Held in Zanskar under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Zanskar, May 08, 2026: A cleanliness drive and awareness campaign was conducted under the theme “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” today in Zanskar Sub-Division by BDO Lungnak/Karsha, Zanskar under the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Omkar Rajendra Gundage, IAS in collaboration with the Merchant Association Zanskar and with active voluntary participation of Heads of Departments, staffs, members of merchant associations, students, volunteers, and the general public.
The campaign was formally flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Zanskar, Shri Omkar Rajendra Gundage, from Ashoka Stambh, Zanskar. Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the importance of cleanliness and public awareness in maintaining a healthy and sustainable environment. He emphasized the significance of cleanliness drives and awareness among the people and appreciated the enthusiastic participation of all stakeholders.He also emphasised that this cleanliness drive is only the beginning and that such initiatives must continue in the future as well.
He urged the people to collectively work towards maintaining cleanliness and environmental sustainability, stating that everyone must aspire and work together for a cleaner and greener Zanskar. He also stressed that both the administration and the public must cooperate and work together collectively to make Zanskar cleaner, greener, and environmentally sustainable.
The awareness rally commenced from Ashoka Chowk and proceeded towards the main market area. The rally witnessed active participation from students of Government Degree College Zanskar and Government Higher Secondary School Padum, along with Heads of Departments and their staff members, members of the Merchant Association, volunteers, and the general public.
During the rally, students spread awareness on cleanliness and sanitation by raising slogans and displaying placards and charts carrying messages promoting hygiene and environmental responsibility. Local residents also participated enthusiastically, making the campaign a grand success.
A formal vote of thanks and appreciation was delivered by Tundup Dorjay, BDO -Lungnak/Karsha, Zanskar who expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their active support and participation. During the vote of thanks, Tundup Dorjay also expressed sincere gratitude to Deputy Commissioner Zanskar, Omkar Rajendra Gundage, for his guidance, encouragement, and support in successfully conducting the cleanliness drive and awareness campaign under the theme of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. He especially thanked the executive members and representatives of the Merchant Association, members, Heads of Departments of District Zanskar along with their staff, the Nambardar Association, volunteers, and the general public for making the programme successful.
He also conveyed special appreciation to Principal Government Degree College Zanskar, Dr. Amjad, Principal GHHS Padum Sir Rinchen, faculty members, and students of both Government Degree College Zanskar and Government Higher Secondary School for their enthusiastic participation in the cleanliness awareness rally and for spreading the message of cleanliness among the masses.
The programme reflected the collective commitment of the administration and the public towards building a cleaner, healthier, and environmentally conscious Zanskar.
