Meeting of Committee on Promotion of Sea Buckthorn Activities in Ladakh held at Kargil.
Kargil, August 31, 2026: The 2nd meeting of the Committee constituted for promotion of Sea Buckthorn activities in Ladakh was held today, 31st August 2026, in the Office Chamber of the Additional Registrar Cooperative Department, UT Ladakh, Kargil, under the chairmanship of the Additional Registrar Cooperative Department, UT Ladakh.
The meeting was convened to deliberate upon the fixation of a suitable procurement price for Sea Buckthorn produce to be purchased from farmers in Ladakh, besides other matters relating to promotion, aggregation, value addition, marketing and strengthening of the Sea Buckthorn cooperative ecosystem in Ladakh.
Deputy Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Leh, ARC Nubra, Changthang, I/c ARC Kargil, Horticulture Development Officer of the concerned zones, Fruit growers’ cooperative society member, members of other societies PACS, NABRAD representative in Leh and Kargil and other members joined the meeting.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the need for evolving a fair, remunerative and sustainable procurement price for Sea Buckthorn so as to safeguard the interests of farmers while also ensuring the viability of cooperative societies and the development of a structured market for Sea Buckthorn products.
The Chairman directed the Deputy Registrars, Cooperative Societies, Leh and Kargil, to undertake consultations with the concerned farmers and cooperative societies in their respective areas and submit a detailed report/recommendation on the proposed procurement price to the Additional Registrar Cooperative Department by the evening of 31st August 2026.
The Chairman further directed that the recommendations received from both districts be examined on priority so that a final procurement price for Sea Buckthorn could be arrived at by 1st September 2026.
