Kargil, May 09, 2026: In continuation of the directions issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Zanskar, and as part of the ongoing Swachh Bharat Mission campaign, a mega cleanliness drive was successfully conducted today at Karsha in preparation for the forthcoming Exposition of the Holy Relics of Tathagata Buddha.
The cleanliness drive covered key areas including Photang, Karsha Town, surrounding peripheral areas, the circular road, and various link roads. The programme was organized in collaboration with the Nambardar Karsha, Karsha Ama Tsogspa, Photang Management Committee, and local volunteers under the supervision of the Block Development Officer Karsha.
A large number of volunteers and local residents actively participated in the drive, demonstrating strong community spirit and collective responsibility towards maintaining cleanliness and sanitation ahead of the sacred event. The initiative aimed to promote awareness about cleanliness and ensure a clean, hygienic, and welcoming environment for devotees and visitors expected during the exposition.
During the programme, participants were also sensitized about the importance of source segregation of waste and encouraged to adopt segregation of wet, dry, sanitary, and hazardous waste at the household level for effective solid waste management and environmental sustainability.
The BDO Karsha expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Nambardar Karsha, Karsha Ama Tsogspa, Photang Management Committee, local residents, and all volunteers for their wholehearted support, cooperation, and active participation in making the cleanliness drive a success.
