Leh, July 22, 2025 — The District Social & Tribal Welfare Department, Leh, in collaboration with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), Mohali, successfully organised a Motorized Tricycles Distribution Camp at Nari Niketan, IBEX Colony, Leh on July 22. The event was graced by Romil Singh Donk (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Leh, as the Chief Guest and Ali Shah, Executive Director of PFC, as Guest of Honour.
The programme aimed to empower differently-abled individuals by providing motorised tricycles to enhance their mobility and independence. A total of 45 motorised tricycles were distributed to identified beneficiaries, each aged 16 years and above, with a minimum of 60% disability.
DC Leh commended the collaborative efforts of the organisers and reaffirmed the district administration’s commitment to supporting such inclusive initiatives in the future. He also urged ALIMCO to ensure timely servicing and maintenance of the distributed vehicles, recognizing their importance in enhancing mobility for the beneficiaries. He also encouraged the beneficiaries to approach his office freely for any assistance.
Suresh Kumar Naidu, General Chief Manager of Power Finance Corporation (PFC), addressed the gathering and highlighted that the initiative is part of PFC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts. He stated that similar tricycle distribution drives have been conducted in several other states, and thanked the Department of Social Welfare for carefully identifying suitable beneficiaries, acknowledging the challenge in a region like Ladakh, where steep terrain poses limitations on usability of these tricycles.
Ishwinder Singh, Deputy Manager at ALIMCO, provided usage instructions, safety directions, and explained the do’s and don’ts for operating the motorised tricycles. The total costing of these tricycles was approximately ₹27 lakhs. The tricycle can cover a distance of 42–45 km on a single charge. The event concluded with formal distribution of the tricycles.
