    Kargil, June 24, 2026: Member of Parliament (MP) Ladakh, Mohmad Haneefa Jan chaired a review meeting to assess and finalize arrangements for the observance of 9th and 10th Muharram (Shab-e-Ashoor) in Kargil district. ADC, Kargil, CMO, Kargil, HQ to DC, AD, FCS&CA, EXN PHE, AD Information, beside other officers attended the meeting.
    The meeting reviewed all necessary preparations to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of the religious processions. Discussions focused on traffic regulation, security arrangements, drinking water supply, health facilities, sanitation, electricity, and other essential services.
    It was informed that 27 designated Sabeel locations have been identified across Kargil town for serving refreshments and drinking water to mourners and pilgrims. The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department was directed to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply at all locations during the processions.
    Officials from the Information Department briefed the chair regarding arrangements at Qatilgah, including deployment of women staff, public announcement systems (PAS), Departments including Power Development Department (PDD), Tourism, and the district control room were instructed to remain fully operational on both 9th and 10th Muharram.
    For the 10th Muharram procession, special arrangements were discussed to accommodate incoming pilgrims. It was decided that traffic movement within Kargil town will remain restricted to facilitate smooth movement of mourners. Pick-up points were designated at Bus Stand, Mini Bus Stand, and Biamathang.
    Municipal Committee Kargil was directed to ensure cleanliness, lighting, and proper maintenance of all Sabeel locations.
    Security arrangements were reviewed in detail, with senior officers from police discussing measures to address all potential concerns and ensure public safety during the gatherings.
    Medical camps will be established at various locations including Zainabiya, Women Wing ISK, Omni Van Stand, and Qatilgah. Medical staff, ambulances, and support from Taxi Union members who traditionally assist as emergency transport will remain available throughout the procession. Authorities also emphasized ambulance discipline, communication through walkie-talkies, and proper coordination among all medical camps.
    The Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FC&CA) Department was instructed to ensure adequate ration availability. Executive Engineer R&B informed the meeting that the Jaffaria Bridge has been made functional for pedestrian movement.
    Representatives from JUIAK thanked the district administration and all concerned departments, particularly PHE, Information Department, and Municipal Committee Kargil, for their cooperation and support.
    Addressing the meeting, MP Ladakh urged to avoid the use of single-use plastic during the observance and appreciated the collective efforts of the administration and stakeholders. He expressed satisfaction over the preparations and hoped for smooth and peaceful observance of 9th and 10th Muharram in Kargil.
