MP Ladakh Visits Cloudburst-Affected Areas of Kargil, Assures Support for Relief and Permanent Restoration.
Kargil, August 8, 2026: Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Mohmad Haneefa Jan today visited several areas of Kargil district affected by the recent cloudbursts and flash floods, including Silmo, Tumail Broq, Choskore Archoo and Sangrah, and interacted with the affected families and local residents to take stock of the damages and relief and restoration measures.
The MP was accompanied by Councillor Silmo Feroz Khan, SE PWD, Tehsildar Kargil, Executive Engineer R&B, Executive Engineer Mechanical, Executive Engineer PHE and other officers and officials.
During his visit to Silmo, villagers apprised the MP of the damages caused to irrigation infrastructure and requested early restoration of the irrigation khuls to safeguard agricultural activities and ensure adequate water supply.
At Tumail Broq, the affected residents highlighted the damage to irrigation khuls and sought immediate temporary measures along with a comprehensive long-term plan for their permanent restoration.
At Sangrah, villagers raised concerns regarding damage to floor areas and sought compensation for the losses suffered due to the cloudburst. They also urged for construction of a bridge at Brakhar and Zbrul Changrah instead of a culvert, keeping in view the vulnerability of the area during heavy rainfall and flash floods. The MP directed the concerned stakeholders to formulate a proper proposal and assured that he would take up the matter with the higher authorities for necessary consideration.
The MP also assured the affected families that compensation and support would be extended from the MPLADS fund, as per the applicable provisions, to provide assistance to those who have suffered losses.
At Choskore Archoo, villagers demanded the construction of a 250-foot culvert in the flood-prone area to prevent further damage and improve the safety and connectivity of the locality during future flood events. The MP took up the concerns with the concerned officers and directed them to ensure restoration of drinking water supply and completion of other immediate temporary restoration works within a week.
During his visit to all the affected locations, the MP listened to the grievances of the residents and assessed the damage to irrigation infrastructure, roads, water supply systems and other public assets.
He directed the concerned departments to expedite temporary restoration works and ensure that essential services are restored at the earliest. He stressed the need for both immediate relief measures and durable, long-term solutions to prevent recurring damage in vulnerable areas.
The MP assured the people that the issues requiring major interventions and financial assistance would be taken up at the Ministry level for a permanent solution. He said that the concerns of the affected people would be pursued with the concerned authorities until appropriate measures are taken.
The officers accompanying the MP also apprised him of the ongoing restoration and relief measures being undertaken in the affected areas.
