A Celebration of Linguistic Diversity, Literary Expression and Cultural Harmony
Sankoo, Kargil, September 22, 2026: A day long Multilingual Mushaira was organised at Government Degree College Kargil, Sankoo Campus, by Balti Brangsa Sankoo in collaboration with the Department of Urdu, GDC Kargil, Sankoo Campus. The literary event brought together renowned poets, writers, and dignitaries from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, highlighting the richness of the region’s multilingual literary traditions.
The mushaira provided a meaningful platform for the promotion of poetry, cultural dialogue, and linguistic diversity, bringing together poets associated with Purki, Balti, Shina, and Urdu languages. The programme reflected the importance of literature in fostering mutual understanding, cultural exchange, and social harmony.
The event commenced with the welcome address delivered by Dr Ghulam Mustafa Zia, who extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests, participating poets, faculty members, and attendees. In his address, he emphasised the role of multilingual literary gatherings in encouraging appreciation of the diverse linguistic and cultural heritage of the region.

The mushaira featured the participation of the following poets and literary contributors: Agha Hadi Shah Agha (Purki), Mohammad Ali Ashoor (Balti), Bashir Ahmad Wafa (Balti), Ashraf Ali Sagar (Balti and Urdu), Taqi Khan Nayab (Purki), Fida Ali Karkiti (Shina and Urdu), Akhund Mirza Mehdi Jafri (Purki), and Mohammad Sharif (Urdu paper/presentation).
Meanwhile, the staff and students of GDC Kargil Sankoo compus also participated in this literary event.
The participating poets enriched the gathering with their literary contributions in different languages, offering the audience an opportunity to appreciate the region’s varied poetic traditions and artistic expressions.
The concluding session featured the presidential address and vote of thanks delivered by the Nodal Principal, Dr Salim Ahmad. He acknowledged the contribution of the organisers, participating poets, and all those associated with the successful conduct of the programme. He also highlighted the significance of literary and cultural activities in promoting creativity, inclusivity, and academic engagement among students and the wider community.
