    Plantation Drive and Development Initiatives Mark World Environment Day in Zanskar.
    Zanskar, June 04, 2024: As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, a large-scale plantation drive was organized today at the Headquarters of 13 BRF in Zanskar. The event was graced by Executive Councillor (EC) of LAHDC, Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi, as the Chief Guest, and Lt. Col. Aditya Venka as the Guest of Honour.
    A total of 1,115 saplings, including juniper, selchang, apple, apricot, and walnut, were planted during the drive, emphasizing the region’s commitment to environmental conservation.
    On the sidelines of the event, EC Punchok Tashi laid the foundation stone for a multi-utility hall in Salapi, which is being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹3.28 crore. The facility is expected to serve as a vital community space for the region.
    Later, the Executive Councillor attended a training and awareness program organized by KVK-Zanskar, where over 110 farmers and Self-Help Group (SHG) members from various villages of Zanskar Sub-Division participated. The program aimed to educate participants on sustainable agricultural practices and government schemes.
    In another event marking World Environment Day, a cleanliness drive and plantation initiative was held at Photang Karsha, with active participation from local volunteers, monks, nuns, and tourists. More than 200 plants were planted during the drive.
    Addressing the gathering, EC Punchok Tashi urged farmers to avail themselves of the benefits under various schemes offered by the Central Government and UT Administration.
    Additionally, Dr. Mehdi, Senior Scientist from SKUAST-Kargil, shared insights on the successful survival of plants during the autumn season, offering valuable guidance to the attendees.
