PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana: Farmers of Leh District Receive Next Installment Amidst Agricultural Awareness Drive.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the latest installment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana via live broadcast from Kashi, in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In addition to this, several new schemes and digital portals aimed at strengthening India’s agricultural sector were launched under the broader mission of ‘Swadeshi’ and ‘Vocal for Local’.
Under the PM-Kisan scheme, ₹6,000 is provided annually to farmers in three equal instalments of ₹2,000. This initiative offers minimal yet timely financial assistance to the backbone of India’s economy — its farmers.
In Ladakh, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Tashi Dolma, welcomed Farmers coming from different villages of Leh district and shared that a total of 9 lakh farmers across India, including 7,400 farmers from Leh district, have successfully received this installment, amounting to a disbursement of ₹20,500 crore nationwide. She extended her congratulations and urged farmers to visit the nearest agriculture help centers across the district in case of any concerns or queries. She also announced that a training-cum-awareness session to follow the event.
Subject Matter Specialist (DL), Manzoor Ahmad, shared insights into modern irrigation techniques, including the use of black plastic sheets in cultivation to retain soil moisture and increase productivity. He also introduced various UT-level schemes such as Per Drop Per Crop, drip irrigation, and sprinkler irrigation systems, all offered with attractive subsidy options on both UT level and central level. Also highlighted upcoming initiatives, including subsidies for greenhouse construction, compost preparation, and Ranthak (traditional water reservoir) repairs, as part of Ladakh’s Sustainable Development Program (SDP).
Joint Director of Agriculture, UT Ladakh, Thinless Dawa, addressed the gathering, expressing gratitude to all participating farmers. He emphasized the importance of conducting training sessions and agricultural seminars in local languages, so that farmers across all regions can understand and apply the shared knowledge effectively.
Mr. Dawa also encouraged farmers to focus on self-reliance by preserving their own harvested crops for winter use, thereby ensuring better health and reducing dependence on market-supplied produce — “Our crops, our health.”
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Mr. Ramzan, who congratulated the farmers and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to providing all necessary assistance.
