    Kargil, September 02, 2026: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in association with the Department of Posts, today 2nd September 2026, inaugurated the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) at the Sub Post Office, Kargil, under the jurisdiction of the Regional Passport Office (RPO), Srinagar. The newly inaugurated POPSK is the fourth such Seva Kendra under RPO Srinagar and 457th POPSK in the country.
    The inauguration marks a significant milestone in the expansion of passport services, with the Ministry of External Affairs, now having established at least one Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) in each Lok Sabha constituency under the jurisdiction of RPO Srinagar.
    The facility was inaugurated by Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs and Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate change, in the august presence of Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor UT of Ladakh, Shri Mohmad Haneefa, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Hon’ble Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, along with other distinguished dignitaries, senior officials of the Ministry of External Affairs, Department of Posts and Union Territory.
    The establishment of POPSK Kargil is aimed at improving the accessibility, efficiency, and convenience of passport-related services for the residents of the Ladakh Lok Sabha constituency and adjoining areas. The new facility will significantly reduce the need for applicants from Kargil to travel long distances to avail passport services, thereby saving both time and cost.
    Applicants can book appointments online through the Official Passport Seva website (www.passportindia.gov.in).
    Addressing the gathering, Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs and Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate change stated that the new Post Office Passport Seva Kendra at Kargil is an important part of the ongoing expansion of the Passport Seva Programme. He noted that the initiative is being implemented under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the guidance of Hon’ble External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, with the objective of making passport services more accessible, citizen-centric, and efficient across the country.
    He reiterated the Government’s commitment to strengthening public service delivery by expanding passport infrastructure to underserved and remote regions, ensuring that citizens can avail essential services closer to their place of residence.
    The inauguration of POPSK Kargil represents another important step towards improving last-mile delivery of passport services and reflects the Government’s continued commitment to enhancing ease of access and public convenience through technology-enabled and decentralised service delivery.
