Kargil, Jan 26, 2025: The 76th Republic Day was celebrated today with enthusiasm and patriotic fervor at Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium, Biamathang, Kargil, where Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon unfurled the National Flag.
Dr. Akhoon inspected the parade at the stadium and took salute at the march past by contingents of Ladakh Police, police band party, ex-servicemen, and school contingents.
Executive Councilor, Kacho Mohammad Feroz; Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse; SSP Shree Raam R; Commander of 121 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Prateek Prassar; Director Tourism, Ladakh, Kunzes Angmo; Director, RD&PRD, Ladakh, Syed Sajjad Qadri; ADC Kargil, Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Wani; Joint Director, Information, Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho; Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports, Ladakh, Tahir Hussain Zubdavi; ACR Kargil, Abdul Majid Tantray; District Treasury Officer Kargil, Iftikhar Hussain; along with senior officers, district officers, Councilors and representatives from various religious, political, and social organizations, district awardees, sports persons, students, artists and a large gathering of the public were also present.
In his address, Dr. Akhoon congratulated people on Republic Day and emphasized the significance of January 26, 1950, when the Indian Constitution was enacted, granting the country the status of an independent democracy.
The CEC highlighted the principles of equality enshrined in the Constitution, emphasizing that all religions, nationalities, colours and races have equal rights without discrimination.
Dr. Akhoon called on people to actively participate in the development of villages, cities, and the entire country with spirit of patriotism. He paid rich tributes to the veteran soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the safety and security of the nation.
He said the Hill Council is dedicated to enhance and develop the district, leaving no area overlooked adding the goal is to propel the district to new heights of development.
The CEC highlighted ongoing projects for public welfare, emphasizing a clean, transparent, corruption-free, and accountable administration. Developmental works in health, PWD, tourism, sports, and RD are progressing, with a focus on stabilizing other sectors.
Dr. Akhoon highlighted the priority given to the health sector, mentioning the recent installation of Mammography machine of Rs 2.5 crore in District Hospital Kargil. Additionally, approval has been granted for purchasing a Tesla MRI-3 this year for DH Kargil. He said Rs 141.50 crore funding has been sanctioned for constructing additional blocks at District Hospital Kargil.
The CEC said for the other SDH’s, CHC’s and PHC’s in district Kargil, the work is in process adding that various vacancies have been filled in the Health Department which has added to the health care facilities.
He stressed that tourism is a crucial part of the economy, with plans to promote it through infrastructure development and the creation of a tourist circuit, which will increase the staying time period of tourists in Kargil.
The CEC said this year, 500 new beneficiaries have been included in Home Stay Policy by Tourism Department. He also said that Neuroz festival, Apricot Blossom Festival and Suru Valley Mendok Rgyaspa festival will be celebrated this year.
He said that for the help of tourists and people, a tourism helpline will be set up at Sonamarg, ensuring smooth travel assistance for tourists and locals.
Under Urban Development, the CEC said that this year, the work will be started on projects such as multi-level car parking, sewage treatment plant and 24×7 water supply scheme.
Dr Akhoon that LAHDC, Kargil has approached Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and HLG Ladakh to restore AIR Kargil’s original status and appoint a Cluster Head for its effective operations.
He said the Hill Council Kargil has urged Hon’ble Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah to include Purgi and Balti in Ladakh’s official languages, besides the other languages including Shina and Brok Skat has also been recommended for its suitable status.
Regarding unemployment, the CEC said LAHDC Kargil is trying to fill vacancies in different departments while the recruitment of gazetted posts will be started this year.
Dr. Akhoon discussed various initiatives in education, including providing laptops to meritorious students, free boarding for students during winter vacations.
The CEC also highlighted significant progress on Zojila Tunnel project with 10.50 km of the 13 km completed so far. He thanked Central Government for its support, expressing hope for emergency opening by December 2025. The project is expected to meet its stipulated timeframe, enhancing regional connectivity.
The CEC also thanked district administration Kargil, Project Vijayak, and Police for keeping the SSG road open for longer. He also appreciated HLG Ladakh and Director General, BRO for authorizing Project Vijayak Kargil for snow clearance up to India Gate.
The CEC announced that 180 km of the 230 km Kargil-Zanskar National Highway (NH-301) has been completed, with the remaining stretch set for completion this year.
The CEC highlighted progress in various sectors in Kargil including Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, RDD, R&B, Cooperative Societies, PDD, Mechanical, PHE, I&FC, and other departments, emphasizing significant developments in each for district advancement.
The CEC thanked Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor for his recent visits to Kargil. He congratulated DC/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse for receiving prestigious Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration
The CEC expressed gratitude to officers, employees, and volunteers for their contributions. He urged cooperation from religious and socio-political organizations, as well as the public, to ensure continued progress and development in district Kargil.
The Republic Day event featured colorful cultural programs and patriotic songs presented by artists from different cultures and students from various schools.
Dr. Akhoon and other dignitaries distributed mementos and certificates to recognize outstanding performances and contributions to public welfare. Prizes were also awarded to participants in the march past and cultural programs. (DIPR Kargil)
