Reviving Traditional Greenhouse Farming: KVK Nyoma Leads Sustainable Agriculture Initiative.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Nyoma, under the leadership of Dr. Phuntsog Tundup, visited the traditional mud walled Greenhouses in Tsaga and kargyam valley in changthang as a part of the green initiative and sustainable agriculture.
As part of the initiative, greenhouse UV films were distributed among farmers of Tsaga and Kargyam Valley to strengthen protected cultivation practices and improve fresh vegetable production. The programme aimed to enhance self-sufficiency in fresh vegetable cultivation and support climate-resilient farming systems in remote areas of Changthang.
On the second day, an awareness camp on “Soil Fertility Management through Natural Farming Techniques” was organised at Sato village. The programme focused on promoting eco-friendly and low-cost farming methods for maintaining soil health and sustainable agricultural productivity. More than 40 farmers actively participated in the awareness camp and interacted with Dr Tundup on natural farming practices, organic inputs, and also on marketing of their produce.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Phuntsog Tundup highlighted the importance of integrating traditional knowledge with scientific approaches to ensure sustainable agricultural development in the region. Farmers appreciated the efforts of the Kendra in addressing local agricultural challenges and promoting innovative yet practical solutions suited to the harsh climatic conditions of Ladakh.
The programme concluded with an interactive session where farmers shared their experiences and discussed future prospects for strengthening sustainable agriculture in Changthang.
