Roll Observer UT Ladakh chairs meeting regarding Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Roll.
Leh, Nov 11, 2023: For the electoral process in the Union Territory of Ladakh, Roll Observer for UT Ladakh, Dr Vasantahkumar Namasvayam chaired the first meeting with stakeholders regarding Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Roll w.r.t 01-01-2024 as the qualifying date at the DC Conference Hall in Leh on November 11. Besides, Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, joined the meeting.
Electoral Registration Officer, Sonam Chosjor, presented information regarding the electoral landscape in UT Ladakh to the Roll Observer, UT Ladakh, Dr Vasantahkumar Namasvayam. He added that as per the Draft Roll published on October 27, 2023, there are approximately 178,293 electors in UT Ladakh, with 86,115 electors in Leh district alone. He highlighted the presence of 7 AEROs (Assistant Electoral Registration Officers) and 298 BLOs (Booth Level Officers) in Leh.
Further, he added that to facilitate a comprehensive electoral roll, special camps are scheduled for November 18-19 and December 2-3, 2023. The deadline for submitting Forms 6, 7, and 8 is set for December 9, 2023.
Roll Observer, UT Ladakh, Dr Vasantahkumar Namasvayam emphasized the need to ensure the inclusion of all eligible voters in the electoral roll, particularly those turning 18 on January 1, 2024. He noted that the Election Commission of India permits the inclusion of individuals nearing the age of 18 in advance. Subsequently, to submit Form 6 in advance, the qualifying dates are April 1, July 1, and October 1, 2024. Also, he stressed the importance of public participation during this period.
He added that a Special Summary Revision is underway, with today’s focus on Leh and tomorrow’s session scheduled for Kargil. Dr Vasantahkumar encouraged political parties to engage in mobilizing voters and electors, emphasizing the overarching goal of not overlooking any eligible citizen.
Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the ongoing SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) campaign in schools and colleges. He stressed the significance of public involvement in the claims and objections period, seeking feedback and suggestions from all participants.
The discussion covered ERONET (Electoral Roll Services Network) and the voter Helpline app, ensuring a robust and inclusive electoral process in UT Ladakh.
During the meeting, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (Tehsildars), Deputy Director of NYK, Election Naib Tehsildar Leh, and District Presidents of various political parties, including AAP, BJP, BSP, and INC, actively participated.
