Kargil, December 18, 2025: The closing ceremony of the Residential Winter Alternative Learning Programme (Khangrtsa Yontan), organized by rZamba Trust, was held at Hotel Zojila Residency, Kargil. The residential induction event was aimed to prepare facilitators from various communities across Kargil District to implement alternative, community-rooted educational practices during the winter months.
A flagship initiative and innovation of rZamba Trust, Khangrtsa Yontan is aimed at ensuring continuity of learning during the winter months through project-based, culturally responsive and community-driven educational practices.
The closing ceremony was graced by Imteeaz Kacho, JKAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Kargil, as Chief Guest and Sonam Wangchuk, Chief Education Officer (CEO), School Education Department, Kargil, as Guest of Honour.
The closing ceremony commenced with a traditional welcome of the dignitaries and participants. It was formally initiated by Nahida Wahid, Programme Coordinator, who introduced the Winter Alternative Learning Programme and highlighted its focus on meaningful, experiential and culturally relevant learning during winter.
Facilitators participating in the programme shared their reflections and learnings. They spoke about their exposure to alternative teaching methods such as Project-Based Learning (PBL), Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), wildlife and environmental education, hands-on science learning through science kits and community-based experiential activities and expressed confidence in implementing these approaches in their respective learning spaces.
While sharing his thoughts with the guests and participants, Imteeaz Kacho Sonam Wangchuk appreciated the design, content and overall quality of the residential induction programme. Both dignitaries expressed their delight over the preparedness, clarity and commitment of the facilitators and congratulated rZamba Trust for its efforts towards holistic child development beyond conventional classroom learning.
The ADC stated that he always felt at home while attending events of rZamba Trust owing to the enriching experience gained at each occasion. He appreciated the efforts of the trust towards offering unique learning and teaching methods to substitute the noble initiatives of the School Education Department. While advising the trust to keep up its good work and to perform well in its future endeavours, he wished the facilitators the very best for their unique educational experiences in the winters.
The guests also congratulated all the facilitators and acknowledged the contributions of the core leadership team of rZamba Trust, including Saldon Shifa, Founder & CEO; Marziya Bano, Co-founder; Ghulam Murtaza, Programme Lead; Hakima Banoo, Programme Lead; Rifat Amin, SEL Lead and Nahida Wahid, Programme Coordinator.
The event was formally concluded by Saldon Shifa who commended the facilitators for their commitment and participation throughout the residential induction. In her closing remarks, she emphasized the importance of staying rooted in community realities, practising reflective teaching and ensuring that learning spaces during winter remain joyful, inclusive and meaningful for children.
The ceremony concluded with a collective commitment from facilitators and the core team to implement the Winter Alternative Learning Programme with integrity, creativity and a strong focus on holistic child well-being.
