    On 26th October, 2025 Shri Rudra Goud P.T., IAS, Secretary, Animal, Sheep Husbandry & Fisheries Department and Power Department, UT Ladakh, visited the Pashmina Goat Farm, Khangral, Kargil today to assess the overall functioning and developmental activities being carried out at the farm.
    The visit aimed to review the status of livestock management, fodder development, and infrastructure enhancement works—particularly the construction of a new hay shed under the Special Development Package (SDP) 2024–25. The project is designed to ensure proper fodder storage facilities to support livestock feeding during the harsh winter months.
    During the inspection, Shri Goud examined various livestock sections, interacted with farm officers, and reviewed the fodder production areas developed to meet the nutritional requirements of the farm’s livestock. He emphasized the importance of scientific livestock management practices, improved breeding techniques, and efficient resource utilization to enhance Pashmina wool productivity and quality.
    The Secretary also reviewed the progress of various developmental projects and instructed officials to ensure timely completion of works with strict adherence to quality standards, focusing on maximizing benefits for local livestock farmers.
    Shri Goud was accompanied by Dr. Iftikhar Hussain, Director, Sheep Husbandry Department, UT Ladakh, who briefed him on the Pashmina rearing system in Kargil, the livestock population, and production activities in the district. The Director of Animal Husbandry, Chief Engineer PDD, and other senior departmental officers also accompanied the Secretary.
    Dr. Zakir Hussain, Officer In-Charge, Pashmina Goat Farm, briefed the Secretary on the farm’s significance in promoting and conserving the Pashmina goat breed, ongoing fodder development and pasture improvement initiatives, and efforts to enhance the genetic potential of goats for sustainable Pashmina production in Kargil district.
    The Secretary also visited the Yak Breeding Farm, Bodhkharbu, where he reviewed the farm’s status. Dr. Ghulam Mohd, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Kargil, welcomed the Secretary and provided an overview of the farm’s operations and ongoing initiatives.
