Secretary Shashanka Ala reviews support and placement initiatives for PwDs in Leh.
Leh, 02 Dec 2025: To mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the District Social Welfare Office, Leh, organised an Assessment Camp-cum-Pre-Event Activity aimed at supporting Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in accessing meaningful placement and livelihood opportunities across diverse sectors.
The initiative was held in collaboration with the All Ladakh Guesthouse & Hotel Association (ALGHA), Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI), Leh, and several other partner organisations in Ladakh.
The event was graced by the Administrative Secretary, Social & Tribal Welfare Department, Shashanka Ala, who was accompanied by the Director, Social & Tribal Welfare Department, Kunzes Angmo; District Social Welfare Officer, Mohd Safdar Bhat; and representatives from civil society organisations, including PAGIR and Munsel Society. Their presence underscored the administration’s continued emphasis on empowerment, accessibility, and social inclusion for PwDs across the UT.
The camp served as an important platform where participants received assessments, counselling, and guidance for future opportunities. Officials and representatives from the hospitality sector, skill development institutes, and self-employment agencies interacted directly with PwDs to understand their interests and identify suitable job roles, training options, and avenues for small business development.
Secretary Ala also spent dedicated time with the children and young participants at the camp. She listened to their needs, interests, and dreams, and spoke to their parents and caregivers about the kind of support that can help them grow confidently. She stressed the importance of giving children with disabilities access to proper training, learning facilities, and an encouraging environment so they can build independent and fulfilling futures.
She further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating more inclusive workplaces in Ladakh, improving coordination with NGOs and community groups, and developing strong, long-term support systems that ensure the wellbeing and empowerment of persons with disabilities across the region.
