Secretary Transport UT Ladakh Visits Zanskar, Inspects Civic Infrastructure and Sanitation Facilities.
Zanskar, September 30, 2026: The Secretary, Transport, Union Territory of Ladakh, Mr. Arava Gopi Krishna, IAS, today visited Zanskar District and inspected various public facilities and civic infrastructure in and around Padum.
During the visit, the Secretary inspected the main market area of Padum, Civil Heli Pad, Cooperative Complex, and the sanitation arrangements in the main market. He took stock of the existing facilities and reviewed the arrangements being maintained by the concerned departments.
The Secretary also visited the Segregation Plant at Marthang and reviewed the functioning of the waste segregation system. During the inspection, he directed the concerned departments to take necessary measures to improve and strengthen the waste segregation system, ensure proper segregation and scientific management of waste, and maintain cleanliness in and around the market area.
The Secretary emphasized the need for coordinated efforts by all concerned departments to ensure effective sanitation, proper waste management, and improved civic amenities for residents as well as visitors to Zanskar.
During the visit, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Zanskar; Block Development Officer (BDO), Zanskar; and Naib Tehsildar, Zanskar, accompanied the Secretary and briefed him on the existing arrangements and issues concerning the respective areas.
The concerned officers were directed to ensure timely follow-up on the directions issued during the inspection and to take necessary corrective measures for further improvement of public facilities, sanitation, and waste-management arrangements in the district.
