Social and Tribal Welfare Dept. organizes training at GDC Kargil on prevention of sexual harassment of women at workplace.
Kargil, Sept 27, 2024: The Department of Social and Tribal Welfare organized a training session today on preventing sexual harassment of women in the workplace for the faculty and students of Government Degree College Kargil.
Deachen Angmo (Gender Specialist Mission Shakti) conducted the training through PowerPoint presentation. Principal GDC Kargil, Prof. Disket Angmo, faculty members and a large number of students attended the training.
During her presentation, Deachen Angmo gave awareness about sexual harassment, prevention, complaints and reconciliation progress in detail. She also informed that every college should constitute an internal committee under civil law to address harassment cases.
The committee is supposed to assess the GS CASH and hear cases on the basis of complaints filed in the GS CASH. The internal committee has the power to initiate inquiries in such cases, submit reports and take decisions accordingly.
Confidentiality is maintained in the cases and the right to appeal is always there if the decision is not satisfactory for the complainant. Psychological counselling is also done for addressing harassment cases besides compensations due to sexual harassment cases.
A penalty of Fifty Thousand Rupees is imposed if the department doesn’t constitute the Internal Committee. It was also informed that if someone faces harassment issues 112 helpline may be dialled for taking immediate help. A question-answer session was also held after the presentation and students asked questions regarding harassment issues.
Principal, Prof. Disket Angmo said that GS CASH is also being established in the college in order to ensure the safety of every individual in the college. Adina Ara, Assistant Professor Economics, presented the vote of thanks on behalf of GDC Kargil and GS CASH to Deachen Angmo for conducting this important topic. Mohammad Tauheed, a student of 3rd Semester moderated the session.
