Drass, July 28: The Sub Zero Premier League, organised to promote volleyball and encourage sporting excellence among the youth of Drass, concluded today at the Ice Hockey Stadium in Prati following an exciting final witnessed by a gathering of sports enthusiasts and dignitaries.
The closing ceremony was graced by the Deputy Commissioner, Drass, Imteeaz Kacho as the Chief Guest, while the Superintendent of Police, Drass, Ishtyaq Kacho attended the event as Guest of Honour. Zonal Physical Education Officer, Drass, Mohammad Ishaq also attended the event as Special Guest. Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries appreciated the sincere efforts of the organisers for providing a vibrant platform for young athletes and emphasised the vital role of sports in promoting discipline, teamwork, physical well-being and social harmony. They also encouraged the youth to actively participate in sporting activities and continue striving for excellence.
The dignitaries threw light on the ill effects of drug abuse and urged youngsters to shun drugs by remaining engrossed in sports, cultural and academic activities. Emphasis was also laid on stopping the use of single-use plastic and refraining from littering in order to revive the pristine ecology of Drass.
The tournament concluded with a thrilling contest in which Drass Titans emerged as the winners after an outstanding performance. City Boys Drass finished as the runners-up, displaying remarkable determination and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
The final match also witnessed spells of individual brilliance which were got due recognition in the form of the following awards:
– Best Libero: Mehfooz Shafi
– Best Receiver attacker: Mustafa Ali
– Best Setter: Ali Xaik
The organisers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the District Administration, Police Department, match officials, volunteers, participating teams, sponsors, and the enthusiastic spectators whose invaluable support and cooperation ensured the successful conduct of the tournament.
