The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Leh and One Stop Centre (OSC), Leh under Mission Shakti organized a four-day awareness programme from 17th June 2026 to 20th June 2026 covering the villages of Neyrags, Yulchung, Skumpata Yogma, Skumpata Gongma, Lingshed, Photoksar, Machu, Hanupata, Hinju, Ursi, Sumdho Chun, and Fanjila.
The programme aimed to create awareness among women, children, students, and the general public regarding various welfare schemes and support services available under the Ministry of Women and Child Development. During the programme, awareness sessions were conducted on the following topics:
• Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (PWDVA)
• Services available through the Women and Child Helpline
• One Stop Centre services for women in distress
• Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) registration and benefits
• Women empowerment initiatives under Mission Shakti
• Menstrual Health and Hygiene awareness
Special awareness sessions on Menstrual Health and Hygiene were conducted in the schools of Neyrags, Yulchung, Linghsed and Photoksar, where students were sensitized on menstrual hygiene management, healthy practices, and the importance of maintaining personal hygiene. Interactive discussions were held to address myths and misconceptions associated with menstruation and sanitary pads were also distributed
The PMMVY registration drive was also undertaken during the programme to identify and register eligible beneficiaries, ensuring greater outreach of maternal benefit schemes in remote villages.
The awareness programme witnessed participation from women, adolescents, students, village representatives, and community members. The initiative helped disseminate important information regarding women’s rights, government welfare schemes, and support mechanisms available for women and children, thereby contributing towards the overall objective of empowerment and social awareness in the region
