    The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Leh, organized a Legal Awareness Programme on “Community Mediation” on 19 July 2026 at Shaitan Singh Auditorium Hall, Kharu, Leh. The programme was graced by Hon’ble Justice Sindhu Sharma, Judge, High Court of J&K and Ladakh, Administrative Judge, District Leh, and Executive Chairman, Ladakh Legal Services Authority, as the Chief Guest. In her address, Her Ladyship highlighted the importance of community mediation as a peaceful and practical method for resolving disputes. She observed that mediation enables people to settle differences through dialogue and mutual understanding, thereby saving both time and money. Her Ladyship also encouraged the public to make use of legal aid services and other amicable mechanisms for dispute resolution. Other respected speakers included Ms. Spalzes Angmo, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Leh; Shri Nawang Nurboo, Director Prosecution; and Advocate Gonbo Stobgyal, President, Bar Association Leh. The speakers, while stressing the importance of resolving the dispute through community mediation, also explained the provisions of the NLSA Standard Operating Procedure titled “Community Mediation: Towards a Litigation-Free Rural India, 2026.”
    The programme was attended by Ms. Phuntsog Angmo, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Leh; Mr. Wangial Tsering, Sub Judge/Secretary, DLSA Leh; Ms. Delden Angmo, Munsiff Khaltsi; Advocates Nima Stanzin and Phuntsog Stobgyal; DLSA staff; Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs); ex-servicemen; police officials posted in Kharu, local villagers from Kharu and nearby areas; and members of the public from various villages in the Kharu block.
    An interactive session was also held, during which Hon’ble Justice Sindhu Sharma and other dignitaries interacted with the participants, answered their queries, and explained how community mediation can help resolve disputes at the local level through discussion and mutual understanding. The participants were encouraged to use mediation services and seek legal assistance whenever required.
