The opening day of the Ladakh Marathon 2025 witnessed exceptional endurance, grit, and determination as athletes from across India and abroad took on two of the most challenging races — the Silk Route Ultra and the Khardongla Challenge.
Silk Route Ultra
Flagged off from Kyagar, Nubra, on the evening of 11th September, 2025 the Silk Route Ultra tested runners over 122 Kms across one of the toughest terrains, passing through the mighty Khardongla Pass before culminating in Leh.
• Men’s Category
• Tsewang Kundan (Ladakh Scouts) claimed 1st place, completing the course in 13h 50m 01s.
• Phuntsok Namgail (Ladakh Scouts) secured 2nd position with a timing of 14h 38m 14s.
• Skarma Phurbu Tsering finished 3rd, clocking 15h 01m 01s.
The winners were felicitated by Dr. S.D. Singh Jamwal (IPS), Director General of Police, Ladakh Police, for their outstanding achievements.
• Women’s Category
• Sufiya (Sufi Runner) emerged victorious, finishing first with remarkable strength and consistency.
• Asha Singh secured 2nd place.
• Corina Vandam took the 3rd position.
They were felicitated by PT Kunzang, CEO, Ladakh Marathon.
Khardongla Challenge
Starting from Khardong village, this iconic race tested runners over 72 km via Khardongla Pass before concluding in Leh.
• Men’s Category
• Shabbir Hussain (Ladakh Scouts) clinched 1st place, completing the race in 6h 58m 40s.
• Tsering Norboo (Ladakh Scouts) finished 2nd in 7h 01m 29s.
• Stanzin Namgyal (University of Ladakh) secured 3rd place, clocking 7h 05m 28s.
The winners were felicitated by Maj. Gen. Praveen Chhabra, VSM, GOC, Leh Sub Area, in recognition of their remarkable performances.
• Women’s Category
• Namgyal Lhamo (SPO, Ladakh Police) secured 1st position, finishing in 8h 31m 46s.
• Evgeniia Barushnikova claimed 2nd place.
• Skarma Dewa Zesal took 3rd position.
The winners were felicitated by Padma Shri Chewang Mutup, Rimo Expedition.
