Kargil, October 30, 2025: A three-day workshop on Wetland Ground Truthing, Boundary Demarcation, and Health Card Preparation concluded successfully in Leh. The workshop, held from 24th to 26th October 2025, witnessed the active participation of field staff and officials from the Wildlife Protection Division Kargil.
The workshop commenced on 24th October 2025 at the LPCC Leh, with an inaugural address delivered by the Wildlife Warden, Kargil.
The opening session introduced participants to the Wetland (Conservation and Management) Rules, 2017, the functioning of the UT Ladakh Wetland Authority, notification procedures for wetlands outside Protected Areas (PAs), and the importance of boundary demarcation and ground truthing in high-altitude wetland ecosystems.
On the second day (25th October 2025), participants undertook a field visit to Gobsuk Lake, where they conducted ground truthing, water quality testing, and bird counting exercises. The field activity provided practical exposure to wetland assessment methodologies and data validation techniques.
The workshop concluded on 26th October 2025 with a detailed presentation by the field staff of Wildlife Protection Division, Kargil, highlighting the results of field assessments, including water testing outcomes, boundary demarcation maps, and ground truthing observations.
The three-day initiative strengthened the participants’ technical understanding of wetland conservation practices and reinforced collaborative efforts towards the sustainable management of Ladakh’s unique high-altitude wetland ecosystems.
