Two-Day State-Level Archery Competition Concludes at Khaltsi, Sham District.
Khaltsi, September 22, 2026: The two-day State-Level Archery Competition concluded today at Khaltsi, Sham District, with enthusiastic participation of young archers from across Ladakh.
The programme commenced with the National Song, setting a patriotic tone for the closing ceremony.
The closing ceremony was graced by Deputy Commissioner, Sham, Smt. Kunzes Angmo (JKAS) as the Chief Guest, while SSP Sham, Sh. Aijaz Malik, attended the occasion as the Guest of Honour. The programme was also attended by Sh. Tsering Tashi, District Youth Services & Sports Officer; Sh. Mohd Sharif Bhat, Director, Save the Children; ZEO Khaltsi; ZEPO Khaltsi, along with officials, technical staff, coaches and participants.
The competition was organised as part of the celebrations of National Sports Day 2026 and Youth Engagement Month (August 29–September 29, 2026), with the objective of promoting sports, encouraging youth participation and providing young athletes with opportunities to showcase their talent.
A total of 27 participants, including boys and girls, took part in the competition. The participants competed in the 18–35 age category, demonstrating their skills, discipline and sportsmanship throughout the event.
The competition was conducted under the supervision of Sh. Issa Ghulam, ZPEO Khaltsi, along with officials and technical staff of the Youth Services & Sports Department.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest appreciated the efforts of the Youth Services & Sports Department in providing sporting opportunities to young athletes. She encouraged the participants to continue working hard and to uphold the true spirit of sportsmanship.
At the conclusion of the competition, prizes, mementos, certificates and cash prizes were distributed among the winners and runners-up in recognition of their performances.
In the Girls’ category, Team Kargil secured the winner position, while Team Leh emerged as the runner-up.
In the Boys’ category, Team Leh emerged as the winner, while Team Kargil secured the runner-up position.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Sh. Issa Ghulam, ZPEO Khaltsi, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, participating teams, officials, technical staff, coaches, supporting organisations and all those who contributed to the successful conduct of the competition.
