    World Earth Day 2026 Celebrated at University of Ladakh, Leh Campus.
    Leh, April 22, 2026: The University of Ladakh, Leh Campus, celebrated World Earth Day 2026 with great enthusiasm and active participation from students and faculty. The event was jointly organized by the Departments of Zoology, Botany, Forensic Science, Geology, RS & GIS, and Mathematics.
    Dr. Konchok Dorjey, Dean Sciences, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Ms. Jigmet Chondol, Assistant Registrar (Establishment), and Mr. Nawaz Ali, Assistant Registrar (Finance), were the Guests of Honour. The programme witnessed the presence of coordinators, faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students from various science departments of the Leh Campus.
    The event commenced with the National Anthem, followed by a brief introduction to the significance of World Earth Day by Ms. Lamo Dolma, Faculty, Department of Geology. In his welcome address, Dr. Konchok Dorjey emphasized the urgent need to protect the environment and highlighted how individuals, especially students, can contribute to safeguarding Mother Earth through small but meaningful actions. He also expressed his gratitude to the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Saket Kushwaha, for encouraging such initiatives.
    A key highlight of the programme was a speech competition, where students from different departments presented their ideas on environmental conservation and sustainability. The competition was judged by Dr. Konchok Dorjey, Ms.Jigmet Chondol and Mr. Nawaz Ali.
    Following the competition, a pledge ceremony was conducted, wherein all participants reaffirmed their commitment to protecting and preserving the environment. The results of the speech competition were then announced. Ms. Tsering Angmo of Botany Department secured the first position, Ms. Diskit Spalzes, Mathematics Department, was declared the first runner-up, and Ms. Stanzin Changchup, Zoology Department, secured the second runner-up position.
    The programme concluded with the distribution of awards and a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Masum Reza, Faculty, Department of RS & GIS. The programme was coordinated by Dr Amjad Hussain, Assistant Professor Zoology.
    The event concluded with a group photograph, marking the successful celebration of World Earth Day 2026 at the University of Ladakh.
