    World Environment Day celebrated across Kargil District.

    Kargil, June 05, 2023: World Environment Day was celebrated today across Kargil District and special cleanliness drives and events were held to raise awareness among the public regarding environment protection.
    This year, the theme of World Environment Day-2023 is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution,’ highlighting people’s actions toward environment protection.
    The committed efforts and enthusiasm of officials of District Administration Kargil and with public cooperation of Kargil will advocate a green and pollution-free environment in future.
    On the occasion of the WED, ACD Kargil acted as Nodal Officer for program at Headquarter Level. Cleanliness drives were also held by several departments in and around their office premises.
    Also, cleanliness and plantation drives were held at Sub Divisions, Blocks and Panchayat Headquarters. The day was aimed to generate awareness among people regarding the importance of World Environment Day.
    All the departments of Kargil also organized cleanliness drives and took pledge to protect and save the environment as part of the celebration.
    During the cleanliness drives at various locations of Kargil, the Safai Karamcharis of MC Kargil made necessary arrangements for dumping and disposal of garbage and plastic. Executive Officer, MC Kargil supervised cleanliness of market, streets of town and riverside.
    Similarly, cleanliness drives were held at all school premises under the supervision of CEO, Kargil. In Sub Division Drass, Shakar Chiktan and Sankoo, the garbage was collected and disposed of by using JCBs and tippers. The Taxi Union, Bus Union and Truck Union with their dedicated efforts cleared their premises and made their respective places waste-free.
    A cycle rally was also held in which students participated from TFC to Balti Bazar and back from the circular road of Kargil. The rally was supervised by CEO, Kargil, Principal GDC Kargil, AD Tourism, EO, MC Kargil and Wildlife Warden.
    A cleanliness and plantation drive also held in Sub-division Drass which was supervised by SDM Drass. The initiative was participated by all Sub-Divisional Officers/Officials.
    Painting competitions were also held in many schools of Kargil in which students participated with enthusiasm. The paintings depicted the importance of environmental sustainability.
