World Environment Day Celebrated at Lamdon Model School, Diskit, Nubra.
Nubra, June 5, 2026: World Environment Day was celebrated today at Lamdon Model School, Diskit, Nubra. The programme was organized by the Block Development Office (BDO), Diskit, with Deputy Commissioner Nubra, Mukul Beniwal, as the Chief Guest.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Principal, followed by a skit on the theme of environmental conservation presented by the students.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted Nubra’s strategic importance, ecological fragility, and growing significance as a tourist destination. He stated that while the people of Nubra are fortunate to live amidst the region’s pristine natural beauty, they also share the responsibility of preserving and protecting the environment.
He emphasized that environmental conservation should not be limited to a one-day observance but should become an integral part of daily life. He urged everyone to contribute towards cleanliness, water conservation, and the judicious use of electricity.
The Deputy Commissioner also expressed concern over the issue of drug abuse and stressed the important role of teachers in educating and sensitizing students about its harmful effects, while guiding them towards responsible choices.
As part of the programme, an environmental conservation pledge was administered to all participants, followed by a plantation drive.
The programme was attended by Heads of Departments and officials from various departments.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks to the Deputy Commissioner, Heads of Departments, and all participants for their active involvement and contribution towards making the programme a success.
