World Rabies Day-2024 commemorated in Kargil.
Kargil, September 28, 2024: Animal Husbandry Department Kargil today commemorated World Rabies Day-2024 with a significant event held at District Referral Veterinary Hospital Kurbathang Kargil.
Under the theme “Breaking Rabies Boundary,” the program brought together veterinary professionals, pet owners, and community members in a united front against this deadly disease.
Dr. Gulzar Hussain, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer (CAHO) Kargil, presided over the event as the chief guest. The program saw active participation from doctors of the Animal Husbandry Department, para-veterinary staff and field workers. A significant number of pet owners from the district also present.
Various speakers addressed crucial aspects of rabies, including: disease transmission and infection modes, preventive measures, signs and symptoms in animals, roles of veterinarians and paraveterinarians in awareness dissemination and the department’s overall responsibility in combating rabies.
Dr. Gulzar Hussain emphasized the department’s critical role in conducting mass vaccination campaigns for dogs and cats. He emphasized the need to address rising pet ownership trends in the district due to changing lifestyle of the people and their impact on animal health.
The event fostered interaction between professionals and pet owners, highlighting the importance of community involvement in rabies prevention. The program ended with a vote of thanks.
The Animal Husbandry Department of Kargil continues to lead initiatives aimed at rabies prevention and control. These efforts include: collaboration with local authorities to implement effective animal control measures and vaccination drives for pets and stray animals.
Dr. Gulzar Hussain stated, “Our commitment to ‘Breaking Rabies Boundary’ goes beyond this day. We are dedicated to creating a rabies-free Kargil through continuous education, vaccination, and community partnership. The rising trend of pet ownership in our district presents both challenges and opportunities in our fight against rabies.”
World Rabies Day, observed annually on September 28, is a global health observance started in 2007 to raise awareness about rabies prevention and to highlight progress in defeating this horrifying disease.
The theme “Breaking Rabies Boundary” for 2024 emphasizes the need for collaborative efforts to overcome geographical, professional, and cultural barriers in rabies elimination.
