    WWF-India and Department of School Education, UT Ladakh announce MISSION KHORYUG Awards for the year 2026–2027.
    Kargil, June 30, 2026: World Wide Fund for Nature India (WWF-India), in partnership with the Department of School Education, UT Ladakh, launched the “Mission Khoryug” Environment Education Programme in Government Schools of Ladakh.
    Mission Khoryug is a project-based, action-oriented environmental learning programme aligned with the school curriculum. It focuses on building the capacity of educators and mentoring students as environmental leaders across government schools, fostering long-term adoption of green school practices that integrate sustainability into the school’s vision, culture, and everyday practices. The five themes of Mission Khoryug are biodiversity, water, waste, food, and energy.
    The Mission Khoryug Awards, held on 30th June 2026, celebrated the collective commitment of educators and students across 300 schools who have worked tirelessly to build stronger foundations of environmental education. The event witnessed the participation of six top-performing schools, accompanied by their dedicated students and teachers. From classrooms to communities, these young minds and their teachers have demonstrated that meaningful change begins with awareness and action.
    The Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Rakesh Kumar appreciated the participating schools for their valuable contributions towards promoting a sustainable environment. The award winning teachers and students also shared their experiences of being part of the programme, highlighting its positive impact and the meaningful learning journey it fostered.
    DC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, appreciated the efforts of WWF-India and the Department of School Education, UT Ladakh in strengthening environmental awareness among students and educators. He emphasized the importance of engaging young minds in sustainability initiatives and creating environmentally responsible communities through education.
    Shri Rakesh Kumar also expressed his strong support for the initiative and stated his willingness to assist in identifying schools in Kargil for future engagement under Mission Khoryug. He highlighted that such programmes play a vital role in nurturing environmentally conscious citizens and inspiring collective action towards conservation and sustainable development.
    On this special occasion, schools, educators, and students gathered to celebrate and learn from their remarkable journeys in environmental education. The winning schools in Kargil were:
    Government Middle School, Darchiks – Best Educator Award.
    PM Shri Govt. Hr. Sec School Minjee – Best Green Cabinet Award.
    Govt. Middle School Titichumik – Special Mention Award.
    The event concluded with the felicitation of award-winning schools, educators, and students, followed by a vote of thanks. The programme reaffirmed the shared commitment of WWF-India and the Department of School Education, UT Ladakh towards fostering environmental stewardship and encouraging schools to adopt sustainable practices for a greener future.
