Zanskar Administration Holds Key Meeting on Drug Abuse, Flags External Supply Concerns.
Zanskar, June 10, 2026: A meeting on drug abuse awareness was held today at the Conference Hall, Dak Bungalow Padum, under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, Zanskar.
The meeting was attended by the Superintendent of Police, Zanskar, President, Zanskar Buddhist Association (ZBA), President, ZBA Youth Wing, President, Moin-ul-Islam, representatives of AMA Choqspa, Muslim Association, and Gonpa Association. On behalf of the administration, Tehsildar Zanskar, SHO Zanskar, Principal Government Degree College Zanskar, Principal HSS Padum, BMO Zanskar, ZEO Zanskar, and TSO participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, concerns were raised regarding the inflow of drugs from outside the district, as Zanskar remains connected from three sides. It was observed that some tourists and labourers arriving from other states are involved in bringing and supplying drugs to local youth.
The Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police appealed to all stakeholders to remain vigilant in their respective areas and promptly share any information regarding drug-related activities with the concerned departments to help safeguard the youth and society from the menace of drug abuse.
